Gail Goodman's definitive book on Salukis Saluqi: Coursing Hound of the East
The Archive’s Azal of Davijoya

Born: 3/5/75 - Died: 4/17/85
Breeder: Robert Zazitz
Owner: Gail Goodman and David Randel and Joy Randel

Though an absolute novice when I first saw Azal in 1976, I had been “imprinted” by desert breds in the Middle East. This was such a fortunate entry into the breed and I remember thinking Azal looked just like a desert bred, only “bigger”. And, he proved a perfect blend for the Tarabin line.

I knew nothing about “old pedigrees” when Azal came to live with us, quickly becoming my son’s Saluki. Of his pedigree, Joy Randel told me he was her dream of combining the foundation East Coast bloodlines with the foundation West Coast bloodlines. That sounded like a “meaningful” idea to me then, and has proven an excellent foundation.

Azal was shown, pointed, and had an owner handled Hound Group III. In his soul, Azal was a coursing hound and I still see him running in every generation of Midbar.
